Samoa marks Energy Awareness Day

“Sustainable and Affordable Energy for All.”

This was echoed loud and clear during yesterday’s Samoa National Energy Awareness celebration in Apia.

Various schools and stakeholders of the energy sector took part in a parade that started from the government building towards the Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi building.

“The Renewable Energy Sector plan clearly identifies the need for Samoa to reduce relying on the importation of fossil fuels, but to use renewable energy that is being found in our country through wind, sun and water,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa said.

“This will ensure that our environment is safe and clean for future generations.

“Today (yesterday) we would like to acknowledge our development partners for their support in making this day special.”

Fiame also presented winners of Improving the Performance and Reliability of Renewable Energy Power System (I.M.P.R.E.S.S.) logo competition with their prizes.

I.M.P.R.E.S.S. supports national efforts towards achieving 100 percent renewable energy electricity generation by 2025 while also contributing to improved energy for everyday Samoans.

Third place winner was Ruta Maua’e, second place went to Adrian Mosese and the winner was P.U.M.A, Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment adaptation fund team.
