The Police have appealed for information in relation to the death of a man whose body was discovered under the Lelata Bridge last month.

The body of the deceased man was discovered on 17 February 2021 and has been identified as a staff member of the Fire and Emergency Services Authority.

But 18 days after the body was found the Police have made an appeal on their Facebook page for members of the public with information to step forward and assist them in their investigation.

“The Police in particular seek the assistance of those who had traveled on Lelata road between 1am and 5am of the above mentioned date for any information that might assist with its investigation,” reads the Police Facebook post.

“All information provided and identity of those who wish to come forward and assist Police will be protected.”

Last month Deputy Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said the Police received reports of a dead man's body underneath the bridge and they were investigating.

“We observed injuries on his body and has been taken to the hospital,” said Auapaau at the time.

“We did not receive any reports of a missing person. I can only say that some of our officers know the deceased and where he works…”

At that time several Police officers sealed off a section of the bridge close to the river, where the body was found, to begin their investigations. Blood stains could be seen on rocks at the bottom of the bridge next to the river.

The Deputy Police Commissioner said at that time that it was too early to determine the cause of death, which was subject to their investigation.
