A three-hour power outage at Nu’u late Sunday evening was triggered by a technical fault in a transformer, says the Electric Power Corporation (E.P.C.) General Manager, Faumui Tauiliili Iese Toimoana.

Faumui confirmed the power outage during a telephone interview with the Samoa Observer on Monday.

He said the outage affected ten families in the area and the E.P.C. received the report of the outage at around 1am Monday morning.

"It mainly affected only ten families in the area," he said.

Asked what caused the power outage, he said it was a low voltage fuse from the transformer site, and added that there is a three-phase power supply from the transformer and the outage occurred when one of the phases dropped out.

“Based on the report, they managed to find the problem at around about 3 o’clock and restored it at that time,” Faumui said.

The E.P.C. General Manager further clarified that it was not a major issue and is normal as there was no damage caused by the power outage.

Asked if heavy rains over the weekend caused damage, he said there were no major issues while further emphasising the E.P.C. is ready to tackle issues that are a result of the cyclone season, such as branches falling into the power lines.

Nevertheless Faumui apologised to the affected residents for any inconvenience caused.
