Bad weather hits Teuila Cricket competition

The Teuila Festival's cricket tournament hit a snag on Tuesday with patches of heavy downpours cancelling the scheduled matches.

The day's play would have determined which teams would progress to the semifinal of the men's contest.

But the organisers are hoping for better weather on Wednesday.

"We were supposed to finish all the five rounds on Tuesday in order for us to go straight into the semi-finals and finals for both men and women on Wednesday," said Amituanai Tavita Sasi, the tournament's Director.

"The women's pool games are done and we have our finalists, but for our men since there are 24 teams we really need more time with them that's why they are finishing it on Tuesday and finals on Wednesday."

For the women's division, a team from Faleula will be playing against a team from Leauvaa while Vailele EFKS will take on Ma'aseugogo of Fusi Safata for 3rd and 4th place on Wednesday.

"The men's competition is not yet done. But the weather is not on our side so hopefully, it will on Wednesday. The women's final will go first and then the men's."

In an interview with Observer Sports, Amituana'i was only able to confirm that Siusega Bradaz from Pool D had qualified for the semis.

"I can only confirm Siusega Bradaz, but for pool A, B, and C none of the teams have secured a place. They have all faced some losses and the teams are all competitive so any team can make it to the semi-finals. They're all tough teams but only one can compete in the semi-finals," he said.
