A wind advisory remains in effect for all areas of Samoa and residents in the south and eastern coast have been urged to watch out for coastal floods.

A small craft advisory has also been issued for all coastal to open water areas of Samoa.

The Samoa Meteorology Division issued the three advisory cautions in its daily weather bulletin issued 5pm on Saturday [Samoa Time].

According to the Meteorology Division, a strong southeasterly wind-flow with brief showers observed throughout the island on Saturday was due to an intense high-pressure system situated far south to the northeast of New Zealand.

“This system will maintain the wind speed of 45 – 55 kilometres per hour in most areas by tonight as well as a significant wave height of 3 – 4 meters to all coastal and open waters of Samoa.

“Hence, the wind and small craft advisory will remain in force for all of Samoa but the coastal flooding advisory is valid only for eastern and southern areas of all islands.”

In terms of potential impact brought on the weather system, the Meteorology Division warned of strong to gusty winds and rough seas.

“Fresh to strong and gusty winds. Strong and pull out currents as well as rough seas and coastal inundation.”
