Samoa Chamber election to be streamed live

For the first time in its history, elections for the Samoan Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be streamed live online.

The decision follows the current state of emergency restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Facebook post by the S.C.C.I.

The floor is now open for nominations for office bearers for the 2020 Annual General Meeting (A.G.M). All members must update their membership annual subscription for 2020.

Instead of the normal A.G.M operation, the Samoa Chamber as a result of the global pandemic, will conduct only the election process without the usual general meeting.

The election will be overseen and scrutinised by the Office of the Electoral Commissioner and is to be held at Tanoa Tusitala Hotel on 11 August 2020 from 10am to 4pm.

All nomination forms must be lodged with Samoa Chamber offices before 4pm on Wednesday 5 August; late nominations will not be accepted.

The S.C.C.I is a peak body representing the interests of businesses and companies in Apia and all of Samoa.

The Chamber of Commerce’s main activities are, among others, safeguarding business interests and allowing members to network and share business experiences and interests.

The Chamber is also in regular contact with the Governments, non-Government organisations, the media and organises trade shows and events.

All financial members eligible for the election will be required to cast a ballot.

The organisation’s annual report for  2019 will be distributed to all paid members by the end of July by the S.C.C.I Secretariat, the organisation said.

Only current financial members excluding affiliate and associate members will be qualified to vote at the A.G.M.

The Chamber reminded members to check their current financial status on the member services page.
