The Tuamasaga Rugby Union will join the local rugby action next week with its first tournament set for 25 July 2020.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio, who is also the President for the Tuamasaga Rugby Union.

“Yes, we will start our sevens tournament on the 25th of this month, in preparations for the Samoa Rugby Union sevens in August,” he said.

“It is also for the selection of our teams for that tournament as well,” he added.

The Tuamasaga rugby union is one of the unions who have not yet started any of their rugby tournaments since sports were given the green light by the Government.

The Union is made up of eight villages including Faleula, Afega, Tuanai, Leauvaa, Levi, Lotosoa, Salepouae and Tufulele.

The union had a sevens tournament in 2018 which was won by Tufulele.

But Loau said the players are looking forward to the return of rugby action there.

In the meantime, the Vailima Savaii Sevens is in their second week, the Marist Vailima sevens is in their third week, the Aana rugby union taxi seven series in their third week as well.
