The five on five basketball tournament held on the weekend at St. Joseph's College is only part of the bigger picture in terms of widening the selection base for national teams.

Central Basketball Association Director, Su’a Stephen Schuster, said they were glad to see the teams on the Court, giving it their best.

“It was a very exciting beginning," he said. 

"We had some hiccups, but a great opening weekend for the Central Basketball Association's tournament."

Su'a said the development of the sport is their man goal.

"The goal has always been for the development of local talent in basketball," he said. 

"The idea is to start them young so that in the future we would have a bigger pool of basketball talents locally to select from."

The results from the weekend are: 

 U-18 matchup between Riverside and Eastside U-18 boys with the Eastside winning 23-12.

The second game featuring Open Women East Side and the West Side Open Women saw the West Side victorious 20- 17.

For game three between the Black thunder’s Open Men against East Side Open men, Black thunder defeated East side 29-20

And the last game of the day between the Tama o le Mau Open Men against Alafua Open Men, Tama ole Mau beat Alafua,  58 -29.

The tournament continues on Thursday at St Joseph’s College hall, Alafua.
