Samoa visit great for the soul

Christmas is the season to pause, reflect and renew your life in anticipation for the New Year.

And the perfect place to welcome 2018 for Sinakaye Nieuwenhuizen is Samoa.

This is her second time here and for her the ocean and all its beauty define Samoa.

Being here allows her to soak the simplicity of life for the reason that where she is from is very different.

“Coming here to Samoa, the simplicity of life itself is what I look for,” she said.

“The people are very nice and we can see how the other person treats the other person, feels like you are surrounded by family, it is what the spirit of Christmas is all about.

“It feels really good to come back here again to visit.”

The 17-year-old is from Brisbane, Australia, and she is here with her family to celebrate Christmas and New Year.

The eldest of four said she is very much interested in the Samoan handicrafts and their work of art, which is why one of her favorite areas to stroll around is the market.

She could not help but notice that the kindness of the Samoan people are also very strong within their own home and villages, nothing but love is what she sees within the locals and how they are with each other.

“Just witnessing how Samoans are very free where they walk from their house to their neighbours house is totally fine, in overseas, they would chase you away thinking that you are trying to steal from them. I admire that here,” she added.

Sinakaye says she notices people migrating overseas for better education and opportunities, but things are more complicated there compared to Samoa.
