The Commissioner of Samoa Prisons and Correction Services, Taitosaua Edward Winterstein, has resigned.

The resignation was confirmed by the Minister of Prisons and Correction Services, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt, during an interview with the Samoa Observer. 

Taitosaua's resignation follows a mass prison break at the Tanumalala Prison where 29 prisoners escaped.

The Minister also confirmed that Cabinet has endorsed the decision to bring the Prisons back under the portfolio of the Police.

When the Samoa Observer approached Taitosaua for a comment, he declined.
