N.Z. hits 20 coronavirus cases
New Zealand has eight new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, all of which resulted from incoming passengers to the country.
“This brings our total cases to 20,” said Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, the country’s Director General of Health said in a press conference at 1pm local time.
“We expected more cases and it’s most important that we identify, that we test and isolate cases and close contacts.”
The cases came after tough new travel restrictions requiring people arriving in the country to self-quarantine for a fortnight upon arriving in the country were implemented on Monday.
“Contact tracing will be underway,” Dr. Bloomfield said.
Of the eight cases, there are four in Auckland, one in Christchurch, two in Waikato and one in Invercargill.
