New Zealander Corinna Lyon and her husband Derek Lyon have been fascinated most of all by Samoa’s scenery.

So it made for the perfect place for the couple's double celebration last week.

“We are here to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday: my birthday is on March 1 and our anniversary is on March 2,” says Mrs Lyon

“Samoa is just beautiful, lovely people and most of all friendly."

Mrs. Lyon is a vet nurse in New Zealand and says she really loves animals.

“I can’t wait to go home because we are getting a puppy,” she said.

Due to the sudden reduction of flights operated by Air New Zealand, they were required to choose whether to extend or shorten their stay.

“We decided to cut our stay one-day short because I want to go back home so I could get my puppy and spend time with it before I get back to work,” she said.

They came to Samoa on February 29 and were excited because they are here on a double celebration.

The couple stayed at the Sea Breeze Hotel in Aufaga Aleipata before checking into Taumeasina Island Resort on Thursday to await their time to return back home.

“We kind of regret staying at Sea Breeze first; we could’ve stayed here and then [gone] to Sea Breeze later on, but we will look into it again when we come back,” she added.

They’ve previously travelled to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands as well as Vanuatu before deciding to come to Samoa this year.

The couple recommended the country diversify into the beef industry.

“There is so much land in Samoa and it looks [like a] good [spot for] a beef pasture perhaps, and maybe Samoa could look into clearing the rubbish near the roads,” Mrs. Lyon said.

"We are recommending perhaps Samoa could look into having a beef pasture because the green scenery in those rural areas are very rich for a pasture."
