The Marist B.I.G. Golf Club’s  second Taula Twilight Golf Series is set to conclude on Thursday evening at Faleata Golf Course after five rounds of play.

Contestants have had to fend off stormy weather over the last four rounds of competition, with one Thursday session having to be postponed.

But the Series regulars have fought through the wind and rain to set up an exciting end to the Stableford competitions.

The leading club is Vaiotausala Golf School with 297 Stableford points,  ahead of Marist B.I.G. Golf Club on 293.

Vaiotausala came 2nd in the inaugural Twilight Series in 2019 but is aiming to go one better this year.

Inaugural winners Tsunami Golf School sit in third place.

Individually, Leafā Volentras of Vaiotausala Golf School is leading the ladies competition with 59 points (best of 3 scores), one ahead of her Vaiotausala clubmate Pepe McDermott.

Newcomer Sene Poulava of Tsunami Golf School is in third place.

Fepulea’i Rankie Tupuola of Marist B.I.G. is leading the men’s division with 66 points from his three best scores.

Tied for second place are Tavita Solomona of Marist B.I.G. and Mapusua Fetu of Vaiotausala, each with 61 points.

Week Four’s winner and highest scorer for the series to date was Junior Poulava of Marist B.I.G. who shot 24 points.

Marist B.I.G. Captain Paulo Stowers is promising lots of fantastic prizes for the final week of the series and added, “I am pleased with the support shown by our golfers and sponsors, despite the poor weather. This 2nd series is more exciting given the closeness of the scores.”

“It is anyone’s game come the final. For those who cannot play, you are invited to attend our prizegiving at Birdies Bar at 7:30pm this Thursday 5th of March.”

The proceeds from the Series will be applied towards school scholarships for children who excel at Marist B.I.G.’s junior golf programme that is run by Asiata Van Wright.

“For our junior golfers to excel and win gold medals for Samoa in the future, we do not only develop their talent, but also their minds by making sure they get good education,” added Stowers.

The inaugural Twilight Series funded the programme itself, raising money for Asiata to provide golf lessons to the children that hang around the Faleata Golf Course collecting balls to sell.

Marist B.I.G. Golf Club expresses its gratitude to the sponsors of the series, namely major and naming rights sponsor, Taula Beverages. The associate sponsors are SSAB, Pacific Ezy Money, Connexions Café, Loralei Gift Shop, Misiluki Day Spa, Keaka Maria Restaurant, Chickalicious, Samoa Land Corporation, Birdies Bar, The Whisk Dining Room, Samoa FM 93.7 & 104.1 and Gulf Western Oil.
