Vaisigano Bridge work causes more road closures

Sections of the road leading up to the Vaisigano Bridge will be fully closed to allow more space for the completion of the construction works of the new bridge and roads.

The closure will take effect as of Wednesday, March 4.

The Land Transport Authority posted a notice to their Facebook page notifying the public of the changes.

"The Authority wishes to advise the traveling public that a Full Road Closure for the Vaisigano Bridge Project will commence on Wednesday 4th March at 7 am," the notice reads.

"This closure is necessary for the completion of the Vaisigano Bridge Project."

There will not be an access road from Apia Park to town and from the Sheraton side towards Apia Park, the L.T.A. warns.

All residents and businesses on the Sheraton side can access their properties though the existing main road instead of redirecting at the John Williams traffic lights as currently happens.

Access to the Apia Port will continue to be via Vaipuna Road and Vaiala.

"We ask that the public use alternative routes during this road closure period," the L.T.A. notice reads.

"We kindly ask for all motorists to drive safely and adhere to the Police Officers in charge, and also the road signs in the vicinity.

"We regret the inconvenience that this will cause to the public but we request for your assistance and cooperation for a long-term improvement of our road network."

The construction of the $43 million Vaisigano Bridge began in 2018.

Bridge construction works are being carried out by the Japanese Konoike Construction Company Ltd.
