Manusina Sevens to play for Olympic repechage place

The Manusina 7s lost their crucial Olympic qualifying semifinal 43-0 to hosts Fiji at the Oceania Sevens on Saturday afternoon.

They can keep their Olympic dream alive with a win in the Oceania fifth-place playoff against the Solomon Islands at 6:58 pm Samoan time.

That would earn Samoa a place at the repechage tournament in June along with the loser of the Olympic qualifying final, either Fiji or Papua New Guinea.

Fiji opened the scoring immediately through Luisa Tisolo, who showed a good step and speed to get the game’s first try.

They doubled their lead straight from kickoff, with the Manusina 7s spilling the ball and Tokasa Seniyasi taking advantage of big holes in the scrambling defence.

Samoa dropped the next kickoff as well, and Tisolo grabbed her second to make it 21-0.

The Manusina 7s finally got some possession but Fiji didn’t let them do anything with it, their superior fitness and work at the breakdown coming to the fore.

Seniyasi scored her second as soon as Fiji got possession back in the second half, then completed her hattrick after another try to Ana Maria Roqica

Luisa Tisolo completed the 43-0 rout on fulltime with her second try.

The next Samoan team in action at the Oceania Sevens is the Manu Samoa 7s, who will face Australia in their own Olympic qualifying final at 6:36 pm.

After that at 8:04 pm, the deaf men’s team will play Fiji Totokia for the Oceania title.
