Suspended cop pleads not guilty to dangerous driving

The Police have filed an additional charge of dangerous driving against a suspended Constable, Junior Afereti, after a traffic accident last month.

The defendant was initially charged with careless driving.

However, Prosecutor, Sergeant Khamtahn Stanley, informed the Court this week about the final charges.

The defendant is represented by lawyer, Aumua Ming Leung Wai.

However, in Court another lawyer, Afa Lesa, entered a plea of not guilty for the defendant.

The Constable was suspended from duty as a result of a traffic incident last month involving a vehicle donated by the Australian Government.

Afereti was the driver of a Ford Ranger which was assigned to the Police Tactical Unit.

It collided with another vehicle in Vailoa earlier this month.

The matter was heard before District Court Judge, Alalatoa Rosella Papali’i, this week.

The hearing for the matter has been scheduled for October 28.
