As Samoa prepared to celebrate Father’s Day, Chan Mow Supermarket gave fathers a treat.

Sally Chan Mow, who is the sales and marketing manager of Chan Mow Supermarket, said they had three events which were a way of giving back to the fathers of Samoa.

“We conducted a Father’s Day Devondale promotion which was a poem competition that had two categories: one in the ages 5-7 and the other in ages 8-13," she said.

“The poem competition was a way for children to express how much their fathers mean to them and yes, children have fewer words to say to their fathers and so this was to make fathers feel special."

Each category had a first, second and third prize. The value of the total prizes is $2,000 in shopping vouchers. There were 230 entries.

“There were also five special prizes awarded with food supplies," Mrs. Chan Mow said.

"This is an annual event, celebrating Father’s Day through competitions that get the community involved and it has been ten years now and we will continue into the future."

Ms. Chan Mow said that their company also donated 22 gift hampers to the fathers at the Home of Elderly at Mapuifagalele.

“We also did a Devondale Draw promotion which had 13,000 entries and five winners will walk away with $1,000 this was drawn so that families will have something special for Father’s Day whether it be to buy a gift or food supplies," she said.

“We thank our main sponsor Devondale who paid for everything especially all the parents and children for taking part in our initiatives.

“Happy Father’s Day for all the fathers: drink less beer and spend more time with families.”

Winners of the 5-7 category for the poem competition included: Anarair Faimanu, Tausala, and Chrileina Tito.

The 8-13 category was won by: Jacinta Seumanutafa, Jenny Salasoo, and Kerisiano Peniata.

Special prizes were awarded to: Sauao Afele, Moana Eusipio, Tauinaola Malatoese, Matelina Lafi, and Mika Sini Talolua.
