Taga-Savaii won the second round of the Bluesky Women’s National Sevens series at the Pesega College field.

Taga defeated Apia Maroons 26-7 in the final, the same side that beat them in the final of round one last weekend.

Apia opened the scoring after winning an early lineout against the throw.

Captain and Manusina sevens representative Saelua Leaula scooted right around the defensive line to score, then converted her own try to make it 7-0.

They recovered the resulting kickoff as well, but a huge hit from Taga’s Soteria Pulumu in cover defence got the ball back for the girls from Savaii.

They scored soon after to make it 7-7.

Pulumu went through to score Taga’s second try before halftime and make it 14-7.

She went on to score two further tries in the second half, completing an impressive hattrick.

The Manusina 15s and sevens representative had starred in the Vailima Marist Touch Tournament the previous day as part of the No Idea team that won the women’s division.

Aleipata won the 3rd place playoff game 40-7 over Aana Blues, while Marist Angels finished 5th in their first ever tournament.

Taga’s Lina Fitiuta won the tournament MVP award.

Next weekend will be the final round of the Women’s National Sevens series, with Taga and Apia set to duke it out for the overall title.
