$10,000 support for School Rugby

A sponsorship deal valued at $10,000 was given by local company Business Systems Limited (BSL) to Samoa Rugby Union (SRU) to assist with the Samoa Schools National Sevens Championship 2019.

The presentation as held at the business’ main store at Taufusi yesterday and was led by the company’s Customer Service Manager Leeroy Feaunati, $6000 was in monetary form while vouchers, shirts and rugby balls totally valued at $4,000 were also given to bring the total sponsorship to $10,000. 

“On behalf of our management and staff at BSL, I present this donation towards SRU in order to assist with the Schools National Sevens Championship in Savaii this week.”

“The reason behind this donation is none other than our never-ending support to our community especially to various developments like education and sports.”

“As a matter of fact these schools are our customers and it is also our way of saying thank you for supporting us as well.”

In response the Schools Principal’s Association president, Matafeo Reupena Matafeo, said he welcomed the gesture which will go a long way to assist the schools. 

“The assistance by BSL is greatly appreciated and will be allocated to help with our prize money and consolations prizes for our tournament.”

“This particular tournament is very significant in developing the skillset for both young female and male players for Samoa in the sport of rugby and it is part of the Government’s initiative that was put in the corporate plan for the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture.” 

“We also acknowledge the support from the Government through the One Government grant which will cover the fees for our athletes to travel on the boat,” Matafeo stated.

Matafeo also added that the tournament venues are Don Bosco field, Salelologa and the Puapua Primary School field, Puapua.

“The entries will be free of charge for both venues and so we encourage the people of Savaii to come down, support and enjoy the efforts by the students of various schools.”

 The teams competing in the Schools National Seven’s Championship 2019 for Under 19 girls include: Avele College, Leifiifi College, Robert Louis Stevenson, Palauli College, Palauli i Sisifo College, Don Bosco College, Leulumoega Fou College, and Aana No.1 College.

Schools vying in the U19 boys division are: Leifiifi College, Avele College, Saint Joseph’s College, Church College of Pesega, Don Bosco College, Mataaevave College, Leulumoega College, and Safata College.

In the U17 Boys category, teams from Aleipata College, Leifiifi College, Robert Louis Stevenson, Saint Joseph’s College, Palauli College, Itu O Tane College, Lefaga College, and Leulumoega Fou College.
