Govt. considers Tuanaimato for 2016 Independence Day.
The independence celebrations for this year might have to be relocated to Tuanaimato, as opposed to Mulinu’u.
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi has revealed that this is one of the options being considered since the Parliamentary complex at Tiafau has been demolished.
Speaking to the media, Tuilaepa said there is nothing left at Mulinu’u where the Independence celebration usually takes place but the open field.
“There are no rest rooms for people to use (there),” he said. “Which means it shouldn’t be held there, we’re looking at Tuanaimato.
“There are many roads that people can use and there are a lot of rest rooms for people to use.
“There are also plenty of facilities that can be used.”
Tuilaepa said a final decision has yet to be made but the government is looking at it.
According to Tuilaepa, Cabinet will make the final decision and decide on the final programme.
As for the public holidays, Tuilaepa pointed out that the Independence Day celebration this year falls on a Wednesday.
He said if the flag is raised on Wednesday, Thursday is the public holiday and Friday could perhaps be a shopping day.
“On Friday people can do their shopping so that businesses don’t have to close on the day because they might complain there are too many holidays,” said the Prime Minister.
“During this day there should also be big sales on. But like I mentioned no decision has been made, its just some ideas.”
Independence day is celebrated on 1st June each year.
