Celebrating culture in cuisine
The celebration of culture in cuisine was on display at the Food and Fair Festival held at Insel Fehmarn yesterday.
Every year, restaurants and hoteliers from around the country gather to showcase colourful cuisine at the festival.
Tourists and members of the local community were treated with a taste of French, Mexican, Indian, Philippines, German and locally made chocolates and other sweets.
It is the seventh year since the popular festival was held which is motivated by tourism.
General Manager of Insel Fehmarn, Adele Kruse said the event promotes tourism.
She pointed out that Samoa has a colourful array of ethnicities all in different types of food that is authentic and part of Samoa.
“It’s something to ensure that when guests come to our island they understand our beautiful Samoa with its culture of multi-ethnicity,” said the General Manager.
“We Samoans love food and the event is a pleaser if we use that…we get great feedback every year and our theme is celebrating culture in cuisine.”
Some of the restaurants and hoteliers that had their cuisine showcase at the festival is Taumeasina Island Resort.
The resort which supports community building events was attracting a lot of customers with their chef Bradley Martin dishing out some of his delicious cuisine.
On the other corner was Roko’s restaurant who won the Best Innovation Skill during the New Zealand Samoa friendship week this year with their Samoan salmon shells.
New at the fair was the Palusami restaurant led by chef Jesse Lee.
Although the chef and his wife Vaimoana Hunt Lee are more focused on promoting organic food in Samoa, they decided to go with something new giving Samoa a taste of the State of Texas.
On the side is Le Petite café which brought some French love in the fair.
Pilipino restaurant Kusina also shared their dining experience with the guests. But no food is good without a sip of wine.
A variety of red and white wine from Australia and New Zealand supplied by Le Well company was tasted at the fair.
To top off the festival there was cultural entertainment, music and jumping castle for the children.
