There is no such thing as equality

Dear Editor,

Re: The glass ceiling

Latayvia, first of all there is no such thing as equality.

Name one country that has equality? Nowhere in this world is there such a thing as equality.

It doesn’t exist even in so called Democracy states. In fact, the word Democracy is highly debatable. It’s a thought and dream we ALL strive for but realistically speaking is NOT possible.

Think about that one REALLY hard!

We discuss and hope for equality everyday, in our work place, in social places, in our schools, in our churches, in our governments, in our homes, even in our relationships with one another and achieving it is quite another.

Our world, our societies, our rules, our laws, our policies are structured in a way that does not allow “equality.”

I completely agree with you, women should be paid the same as men based only on our qualifications and not whether we wear pants or a dress.

Having said this, we also need to be realistic and agree there is a vast difference between a man and a woman.

Hence, there are some things/tasks women are able to do better than men and vice versa and yet other things/tasks will NEVER come together.

There are MANY inequalities in this world.

It’s the reason for the wars, abroad and at home in our streets. Inequality with the treatment of our indigenous people, the poor, the handicapped, the mentally ill, the disadvantaged, the homeless and the list goes on.

It is true with noble intentions we’ve made many changes and achieved some head way, but I would venture to say in so doing, we’ve created other unwanted issues and challenges....many are morally controversial.

What’s the solution? I don’t know, but I sincerely believe inequality cannot be completely achieved, just because we are ALL different.

We can however, attempt to upgrade our mentality and way of thinking to alleviate anxieties of equality imbalance in our world....but to fully achieve it? I’m not so sure!
