Samoa provides for all budgets

Leaving his life as a swimming instructor in Sweden, Micheal Fertig, aged 55, is midway through his 18 month sabbatical.

Having seen Thailand and New Zealand, to name but a few stops on the globetrotters list, Michael arrived here in beautiful Samoa on Monday.

“I took a break from my life,” he said.

The Samoa Observer approached him near the Samoa Tourism Authority (S.T.A) Visitor Information Centre in Matafele, Apia.

Adventure seeker and perpetual sunbather, he said Samoa is the perfect place for him.

“I chose to come to Samoa because I love the heat,” he said.

Amid an ocean of fans, he embraced the tropical Pacific climate, unfazed by the sizzling temperature of 31 degrees Celsius in Central Apia.

Having spent the last five weeks in New Zealand, Michael said “the pace of life is much slower here” adding that “it’s so nice to come down to Samoa and just rest.”

Having travelled throughout the Pacific, Michael has learnt to be thrifty during his stay.

“I’m staying in local accommodation,” he said and with the bus timetable in hand, he utilises the Samoan transport links.

Making your money go further has never been so easy with local produce at a fair price and accommodation available to suit all budgets.

“Things are practically half the price here,” Michael emphatically said, comparing his stay in Upolu to his experiences in New Zealand.

Having only been on the picturesque island for a few days, and already enjoying the “fried fish from the market”, the avid explorer plans to rent a bike to continue his journey around the area.

He said he would definitely recommend Samoa to any holidaymaker searching for sizzling weather and a beautiful back-drop.
