ANZ has welcomed the opportunity to give back to the community following the clean-up by ANZ staff volunteers of the Little Sisters of the Poor compound at Mapuifagalele, Apia.

A total of 42 ANZ staff volunteers gathered last Saturday to clean windows, garden and carry out general maintenance on the property.

“It’s great to see such a large turnout of staff giving up their Saturday to help out the Little Sisters of the Poor,” ANZ Samoa Country Head, Bernie Poort said.

“Staff are genuinely passionate about giving back to the community and ANZ is fully committed to supporting staff volunteering initiatives such as this.”

Mr. Poort explained that all ANZ staff have one paid work day each year to use helping out a local organisation or charity, and are actively encouraged to use their volunteer leave during the year.

“The sisters have a long history here in Samoa dating back to the late 1960s helping out the community at large, particularly the elderly,” Mr. Poort added. “We are extremely grateful for their kind service to Samoa, and it was a thrill to be able to help them out.”

ANZ staff aim to carry out over 1000 hours of community volunteering activities in Samoa this year.
