Love your parents

Your parents should be your priority. No questions asked.

That is the belief of 18 year old Tuna Iopu from the village of Nofoali’i.

“Having parents has given me the courage to strive and perform to the best of my abilities at school,” he says to the Village Voice.

“You know getting a good education doesn’t just happen with a flick of a finger, you will have to go through a lot and you will face a world of challenges.

“That’s why to me, when I feel like giving up, I always think about my parents. You know they are the reason why I can afford to have an education in the first place so who am I to waste all their efforts and hard work?

“But I’ve been through some challenges that I thought I wouldn’t be able to overcome.

“Let’s think about technology and how that is affecting some of the minds of our generation. It’s not good and it’s quite tempting to use it all the time because you can access everything on the internet.

“But even with that; we should be thinking about the fact that we are only humans and we came into this world when there was no technology so if we can control it; I think it would help a lot with our work at school.

“We need to do our work first before spending our time on things that don’t help our future.

“It is only right and fair for children to cooperate with their parents on matters like these because if you don’t; this issue will always remain an issue.

Tuna is the eldest amongst his siblings.

“The only things you need to think about are your parents and your education. You need to get a good education so that you can help by looking after and taking care of your parents in the future.

“We must take every lesson we get seriously because this determines our decisions.

“Have a good spiritual life so you can be able to save yourself from the many bad influences going about in this life.”
