Father urges others to work hard

Fathers have a natural instinct to want to protect their family.

They work hard for what’s best and are able to make ends meet.

Mafutaga Asia of Salelesi is no exception.

“You know how important it is to make family time a priority,” he tells the Village Voice team.

“Especially for us fathers, we are the head of the families and everyone depends on our leading. If we’re too lazy to work, our families will struggle.

“There is no place for lazy in families especially the fathers.

The 40-year-old works on his plantation throughout the week to support his family. He is also a fisherman.

“I work because it is my priority as a father to take care for my family.

“As you can see, I just came from the plantation and I’m checking the tide if it’s okay to go fishing.”

Growing up, Mafutaga said he has learnt the importance of making good use of time.

“I’ve always been a farmer,” he said. “Right now my family uses it for food as well as money. It’s not yet big enough but I’m pretty sure by the end of this year it’s going to be on the next level.”

Mafutaga’s only message for the other fathers out there is to just get your priorities straight.

“Try and work hard, don’t roam around but make use of your time,” he said.

“Try and use the land that the Lord has blessed you with to look after your family, children and as well as the church and village.”
