Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) hosted a first Aid preparatory session for the Super Nine Franchise members and coaches yesterday.

Held at the S.R.U. headquarters, the session was opened to all the Super Nine Franchises to equip them with first aid knowledge before taking part in the World Rugby’s First Aid Training Course to be held on 14 April.

According to Samoa Rugby Union Developments and Competitions Manager, Ta’ala Tui Komiti, it is also to develop the medical side of the sport.

“The main focus today (yesterday) of this first aid programme is to equip the Super Nine franchises members, as well as coaches and all the participants on how to be part of the training.”

“One of the criteria itself is for all the participants to complete a module quiz online on the World Rugby online page, in order for them to take part in the Training Course in the next two weeks.”

“Another focus of the session was to help the representatives from each Franchise, who hasn’t signed up to World Rugby account to get registered, and be able to use the information on the website.”

Ta’ala said the training was an initiative of World Rugby to ensure the players’ welfare and safety.

“The first aid programme will also come handy in your family as well, when someone gets injured or even your work place.”

“By the time accidents occur in any surrounding, you already know what to do as a first aid helper, to minimise the situation.”

Ta’ala also added two specialised doctors from World Rugby will be delivering the First Aid Training Course on April 14th.
