Malofie Group shows pride in Samoa

While the country was basking in the in glory of 56 years of independence last week, another group of equally proud Samoans was celebrating in their own unique way.

The Lia’ifaiva Malofie Association held their celebration by staging a Beer Festival two Saturdays ago.

Held at the Taumeasina Hideaway, the event attracted over 200 people.

According to Lia’ifaiva Levi, the purpose of the gathering was for people to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the meaning of freedom.

“This is our way of commemorating 56 years of Samoa becoming an Independent State,” he said. “We had a live band, fun games and spot prizes for about five hours it started from 12 in the afternoon and finished at around 5 in the evening.

“We also had a draw at the end of the event where a lucky gentleman won himself a trip to New Zealand on the Samoa Airways.”

He said members of the Association all contributed to make the event successful.

“Everything being enjoyed at the event including prizes for some lucky winners was kindly donated by the members of the association,” he said.

“The Group is made up of not only the members that were tattooed by Li’aifaiva, but to any individual who proudly wears the laei Samoa and shares the common purpose to preserve this God given sacred gift for Samoa, and to serve and give back to the community.

“It is a bond that is very deep and meaningful for the members.”

Lia’ifaiva also acknowledged the kind sponsorship for the event by Taula Samoa.

For so many years the Lia’ifaiva Malofie Group has been helping not only the small organizations but also individuals.

Last year they donated to the Samoa Cancer Society by hosting Pinktober billiard 9-ball charity tournament.

Just last week they donated a bicycle to a father, Elisara Fotuaava  who is a mechanic and whom had no connection with the group.
