Mother plays her part in development of family
Everyone has a role to play in developing a family.
If the husband works, it doesn’t mean the wife should stay home and sleep. She has to work to.
For Valaauina Pao, 39, from Aleisa, it means working on her vegetable garden to make additional money.
The mother of six said her husband works and he makes more than $300 a week. But it doesn’t stop her from working and selling produces to add to their income basket.
“It is my contribution to our family,” she said.
“This is what I do every day. I look after my vegetable garden and sell it at the market. To be honest, earning money from my vegetable garden is such a blessing. It gives me a good feeling knowing I’m also playing my part.”
The only challenge is obtaining the supplies and chemicals needed. She said when the weather turns bad, maintaining the garden becomes challenging.
She said she hopes the Ministry of Agriculture can help people like her.
“This is for my children’s school fees. Three of them are at school and that’s why I work hard to earn more money for them.”
“We donate to the church and village obligations, it costs too much money but it’s a must for us to donate.”
Budgeting is important.
“We budget our money and spend wisely,” he said. “We always have vegetables for food during the week. We live a happy life. We are grateful.”
