Young mother’s plea to the government

Monalisa Tuafilisi is a mother of two.

They live in a small fale at Tanugamalala.

When she spoke to the Village Voice, she had a simple request for the government.

“Please lower the cost of living,” she said.

“This is one of the things that I have noticed these days, and I believe, I am not the only one struggling with this.”

“We have all agreed on this matter, because no matter how much money we have every day, seems like we’re just holding a 20 sene. Imagine what life will be like in twenty years time?”

Monalisa said things are so expensive her family has to make do with whatever they have.

“You know the cost of one pound of chicken was $1.80 but it is $2.30 now, things are getting more expensive in stores.

“It’s a burden for us because every day my family works hard so that we could earn some money but the prices of goods just keeps increasing, I just don’t believe it sometimes.”

Although life is hard, Monalisa and her family are not giving up.

“We have a vegetable garden as well as our plantation,” she said. “So each day my mother goes to the market to sell them and since our home is far from town, my mother sleeps at the market.”

Monalisa believes it is time for government leaders to really pay attention.

“Everything is going well except for that one issue which is the cost of living,” she said.

“The government can’t keep ignoring us.  They have got to hear our voice and do something about this.”
