Families and friends celebrated with tears of joy, song and prayers of thanksgiving at Piula Theological College last Saturday.

The occasion was the graduation ceremony for students of the college.

Fourteen graduates proudly marched down the aisle of Lupetaumafa Piula Hall to mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

Twelve students achieved Diplomas in Theology and two with Bachelors of Divinity.

The day was special for Takashi Faavevela who came first in the First year, Samoa Mataafa who took first place in the Second year, Apelu Faaniniva who topped the third year and Numia Tauauvea who was the Dux student.

During the ceremony, Methodist President, Reverend Apineru Lafai, congratulated the graduates for their hard work.

He also encouraged them to always have the Holy Spirit lead them in striving for success.

Principal of the Pacific Theological College in Fiji, Feleterika Nokise says one of the tasks that have been given to the spirit, the human mind, the heart, our thoughts and emotions is to strive for success.

“I don’t have to explain the meaning of striving for success,” he said. “You understand because with every second that we are alive this is what we do. Any Samoan person strives for success. This country, our villages and our families strive for success.”

The graduation continued the celebration of Piula Theological College’s 150th year anniversary. It was also part of the Methodist Church’s annual conference where the main conference begins this week.
