Great food, friendly faces at Sheraton

It’s not just a stunning venue.

The food is equally impressive at the recently opened Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel and Bungalows on Beach Road, Apia.

The man behind that is Sheraton Samoa’s Director of Restaurant and Bars, Lukasz Nowakowski.

After the first week since the hotel re-opened, Mr. Nowakowski is excited about the future of Sheraton in Samoa.

“We are going to be offering quite a bit with regards to food and beverages,” he tells the Sunday Samoan.

“We have the Aggie Grey’s Restaurant by Peter Kuruvita which is Starwood Corporation celebrity chef from Australia; it will be our fine dining signature restaurant.

“We have the Lobby Lounge which has a nice grab and go offerings with sweets, cakes, sandwiches and good coffee. We have a lobby bar which has nice traditional cocktails.

“We also have our veranda just outside where we will be serving afternoon tea, cakes and sweets; and also for dinner we our open Fale next to the pool which offers buffet breakfast, Lunch and Buffet Dinner.”

The hotel’s signature restaurants will also offer great theme nights for guests and the public.

“We will have different themes every night,” Mr. Nowakowski said.

“Starting from Indian on Mondays, Mexican night on Tuesday, Fiafia and a show on Wednesday, international night on Thursdays, Asian night on Fridays, big seafood buffet on Saturday and barbeque night on Sunday.

“We will also offer brunch on Sunday open for the public.” And with these offers, it pays to be a Starwood Preferred Guest. How?

If you are a guest, you just sign up.

“Most of our guests who are already utilizing the resort began as S.P.G. (Starwood Preferred Guests) members which is our loyalty programme for Starwood; this gives us a 15% discount for all meals at the hotel. We just suggest to our guests to sign up.”

But there is more to just offering top quality dining experiences; the hotel aims to train their local staff under the guide of experienced chefs.

“Most of the people on our team are locals,” Mr. Nowakowski said. “As Starwood incorporates, we are actually here to develop the talents so we come and bring some international knowledge and experience from around the world.

“So we work a lot on developing local managers and local supervisors; our Food and Beverages team we have four expats; two of which are from Poland, one from Europe and then the other one is from America.

“They have experience in fine dining and are here to actually develop the chefs and create something new, learn different perspectives about the food. “We are trying to introduce something new to our restaurant; but one of our main focuses is to train our local teams.”

The message is simple for Mr. Nowakowski, come and enjoy.

“We definitely invite everyone to try out Sheraton Aggie Greys,” he said. “We are here for all the Samoans and we will try to accommodate everyone’s needs; come and experience our services.”
