The best way to give back to your family is to support them.

For Apelu Alaiva’a, 19, from the village of Lalovi Mulifanua, he knows that finding a job is on top of his priorities this year.

Mr. Alaiva’a is the eldest of seven siblings and he is desperate for work.

He says life is hard for his family, especially when no one works to provide for them.

“I finished high school the year before last and I could not continue,” he shared with the Village Voice team while making his way back from the plantation yesterday afternoon.

“My parents don’t work, but my dad is a mechanic and he fixes cars around here in our area and that’s our source of income.”

“And we have the plantation that supports us every day.”

Mr. Alaiva’a says he is desperate for a job because of the difficulties faced by his family.

“All my younger siblings are in school and things are getting hard for my parents and I just want to help them by getting a job.”

“I am good in mechanic work, I learned from my dad, but I would love to do any work to support our family.”

Mr. Alaiva’a also mentioned that since he’s not working; he works on their plantation and assists his father with mechanical work.

“I am responsible for our plantation at the moment to provide for our family and outing food on the table.”

“When I’m not at the plantation I will be here at home helping out my dad with his work to earn extra money.”

Mr. Alaiva’a added he needed a job so he could set an example to his younger siblings.

“I also want to get a job so I can set good examples to my younger siblings that life is about family.”

“We work hard to support our families because life is not that easy anymore with our parents.”
