This is exactly what cracks me up when Samoans think Americans with Samoan ancestry have any real connection to Samoa especially when they think these Americans will help them. 

Americans have one ideology, American exceptionalism and American Imperialism.

I’ve lived next door to the US all my life, this is the norm. In fact when I’m in the US and I mention Samoa, the response is the same, “do you mean American Samoa”? I say, “no, Samoa”.

They don’t have a clue who I’m talking about. That’s not surprising though, while riding the BART in San Francisco, I got talking to a young boy of around 11 who had never heard of Canada, when I told him I was from Canada. Poor Americans.
