P.M. to meet President Macron

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi is scheduled to meet the President of France Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron in New Caledonia.

Tuilaepa, who is also the Chairman of the Pacific Islands Forum, left on Wednesday evening to attend a meeting.

During his weekly media programme, Tuilaepa said he is travelling to New Caledonia in his capacity as the Chairman of the Forum.

Climate change, he said, will be on top of the agenda with President Macron.

“It’s disconcerting that with the melting of the ice in North Pole, it means the sea level will rise and half of Apia will be covered with the ocean.

“That is the impact the climate change and why these meetings are important,” he said.

“Tonga will sink, just as well with Kiribati that is the most difficult issue we are facing as Pacific Islands with climate change.”

A vocal advocate of climate change, the Prime Minister continues to play a key role in the international fight to mitigate and reduce the effects of climate change.
