A young woman and her estranged husband are fighting for their lives at the Moto’otua Hospital following a bizarre incident in front of the National Bank of Samoa yesterday where the man stabbed his wife before attempting to self harm.

An eyewitness said the man came out of nowhere and started stabbing her multiple times, in view of members of the public.

“The victim is an employee for one of the government ministries housed at the A.C.C. Building,” one eyewitness told the Weekend Observer.

“He was waiting for the victim to come to work because it was around 8’oclock in the morning that the incident occurred.”

When members of the public rushed to her rescue, he ran away.

“He ran towards the Mulivai Bridge because a taxi driver was chasing after him. He jumped into the sea and he went inside a pipe that is under there.

“However, when he decided to come back out the knife that he used on his partner was on his chest.

“The Police arrived at the scene and the ambulance was called. They were both taken to the hospital and they underwent operation that was like a while ago.”

Contacted for a comment, Police Spokesperson, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said they are investigating.

“All I can say is that it’s a domestic violence case, but you will have to wait until I get back to the office, then I will be able to answer all your questions in regards to the incident,” he said.

A hospital official, who is not authorised to speak to the media, told the Weekend Observer the man and woman are both in  critical condition.

“The victim and the accused were in a relationship,” said the source.

“However, we were told that it’s one of those on and off relationships, so the victim is no longer with him and she is staying with her family.

“As for the accused, we haven’t received any information on him because he was taken to the operating room when he was brought in.

The official said the victim is from Tufuiopa.

According to an eyewitness the incident occurred quite early.

“I just walked out of the National Bank after delivering their newspaper when the incident happened,” he said.

“The victim was walking when out of nowhere the accused jumped in front of her and started stabbing her.

“He stabbed her eight times to the chest, on her side and her back. She then fell on the ground and the accused ran away.”

The eye witness said there was a lot of blood.

“It was a very sad scene because she just laid there in a pile of blood, the security tried to chase him (accused).”

The eye witness said this was a very sad and scary scene to start of 2018.

“I hope she’s okay because she was unconscious and as for the accused, I hope he goes to jail for a long time.

“He looks young, after he stabbed her, he ran away while the victim was lying in a pile of blood.

“The security then chased him and he went through N.P.F. and Mc. Donald’s and then he just disappeared.”
