Samoa U20’s lose opener

Samoa is off to a poor start at the Oceania Rugby Championships.

Samoa’s U’20s team lost their opener against Australia with a final score of 43-20.

Australia was the first to put points on the board and continued the hammering well throughout the match.

Australia proved deadly with ball in hand, racking up 455 meters, with 111 carries and 148 passes; compared to Samoa’s 228 meters, 83 carries and 83 passes.

Samoa only scored two tries both successfully converted coupled with two penalty goals kicked by Pauli One.

Looking at the stats, Samoa spent more time on defense as they made 104 tackles with 26 missed tackles compared to Australia’s with 88 tackles and 14 missed tackles.

Skipper, Ivan Fepulea’i quickly identified the breakdown of their set pieces that resulted in the loss.

He told “If we fixed up our set pieces the game would have been a lot more free flowing.

“I think when we had the ball in hand, we were deadly but full credit to Australia, they really brought it to us today.”

Samoa will play New Zealand U20’s today.
