Men in Court for allegedly stabbing fellow villager

Two young men from the village of Vaiusu accused of stabbing a man from the same village appeared in Court on Monday.

Isitolo and David Ioane are facing six charges. 

Two of those charges are joint charges.

The young men appeared before Justice Mata Keli Tuatagaloa.

The prosecutor is Fatumanavaupolu Ofisa Tagaloa, of the Attorney General’s Office.

During the proceedings, Justice Tuatagaloa informed the defendants that their application for legal aid has been denied.

The defendants then told the Court they are ready to respond to the charges.

David Ioane pleaded not guilty to all six charges against him including the joint charges.

He is scheduled to appear in Court for a hearing on the week commencing 19 February 2018.

In the meantime, he is required to sign in at the Faleata Police station every Mondays and Fridays.

Isitolo Ioane on the other hand pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. 

These include being armed with a dangerous weapon, namely a rock and screwdriver, and causing grievous bodily harm to the victim, Kaisa Ioane.

Justice Tuatagaloa questioned the defendant Isitolo if drugs or alcohol were involved.

In response, the defendant admitted that alcohol was involved.

Justice Tuatagaloa then ordered the defendant to go through the Alcohol and Drugs Court and then report back later on the day.
