Soli’s philosophy to overcome struggles
Twenty eight year old Soli Leauanae has got it all figured out.
“I find the harder I work the more luck I seem to have,” he said. “It doesn’t matter the struggles, we’ve just got to tell ourselves we can do it and work harder.”
The man from Vaitele-Fou made the point during an interview with the Village Voice yesterday.
“I’ve got to admit that life is tough, especially when you’re unemployed,” he said.
“We have seen most unemployed youth, teenagers wasting time roaming around town instead of developing their families and not doing something useful.”
For Soli though, he prefers to work hard.
He and his wife sell elei printed lavalava.
Soli is originally from Savai’i.
“Life in Savaii is way different than here in Upolu,” he said. “We were able to work on massive lands to develop, but in Vaitele most lands are owned by businesses.
“But this cant stop me from thinking outside the box. I have my own ways.
“We were able to sell our own eleis at our market beside A.N.Z. main office at Matafele but the market has become flooded with so many other sellers.
“But these are challenges in life, sometimes the money we earn is not enough but we keep working. We might have to look at alternative sources of income in the future.”
“I have courage to earn a living for myself nor depending on anyone else.”
Soli said he and his wife struggle but they are sure about one thing.
“Life is tough and we just have to take it as it comes,” he said. “It just means we have to work extra harder.”
