Re: Minister laughs at call to resign
“It doesn’t matter how many times you call me, you still have to wait for me to respond in order to run your article” - Minister of Revenue and Prisons, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt
With respect, sorry minister, but no. We all know that ministers are very busy people with sometimes a dozen or more meetings a day, meeting hundreds of people every week.
Samoa news media report hourly and daily to hundreds of thousands of citizens, both natural and of Samoa stock. Citizens asking questions, making criticisms, and expressing an opinion. There are many millions more citizens who support Samoa through their tax dollars, via aid, charity and other fa’alavelave contributions.
If ministers do not answer publicly to the public, on a daily or at least weekly basis on public issues as publicly represented by news media, then they do not warrant public office. That’s not just my palagi view, but one long-debated in Samoa, and beyond.
