Head of State welcomes new Australian High Commissioner

Australia’s new High Commissioner in Samoa, Sara Moriarty, has presented her Letters of Credence to the Head of State of Samoa, His Highness Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, during the Credentials ceremony this morning at the Office of the Head of State in Motootua.

Prior to her appointment as the new High Commissioner of Australia to Samoa, Ms. Moriarty was the Director of the Conditions of Service Section at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Australia. 

A career diplomat, Ms. Moriarty was also previously the Director of the Bangladesh Nepal Bhutan Section at DFAT from 2015 to 2017, and under AusAID was the Director of the Caribbean Program (2009 - 2010). From 2008 to 2009, she became Director of the Pacific Governance and Public Sector Capacity Building Section, and the Team Leader of the Indonesia Branch of AusAID from 2004 to 2005. 

Earlier in her career, she was the Assistant Director for the International Policy Division of the Department of Defence from 2002 to 2004. She was also posted as the First Secretary to the Australian Embassy in Jakarta (1999 - 2002), and was the Assistant Director of the Strategic and International Policy Division of the Department of Defence (1998 – 1999).  

Ms. Moriarty holds a Master of International Studies (1995) and a Bachelor of Arts (1993) from the University of Sydney.
