The Catholic Church ordained six new Deacons at the Immaculate Conception of Mary Cathedral, Mulivai, yesterday.

The service was led by Archbishop, Alapati Lui Mataeliga, who was accompanied by various Catholic Priests.

Families and friends of the new Deacons joined the church service with songs performed by the Choir of the Catholic Church at Malie.

The six new Deacons are: Paulo Tuli Afamasaga, of Vaivase, Mika Auva’a, of Falealupo, Ralph Nofoasaefa Solomona, of Vaivase, Siolosega Kapeli Su’a, of Lalovaea, Usitasio Musu, of Lotofaga, and Iosefa Atonio Taimalie Frost, of Leulumoega. During the service, Archbishop Mataeliga spoke about the importance of asking God for help.

Newly ordained Deacon Siolosega Kapeli Su’a, expressed joy about the new step in his life.

“I give back the glory and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for his guidance and love throughout my journey and also to the Catholic Church in their decision.

“I have chosen this path in my life on my own free will and no one made it for me and it was through God guiding me that gave me courage to pursue it.

“My father who has passed away, played a key role in our church, and so I always wanted to follow his footsteps but I also wanted to serve our church and God as well,” he said. The 33-year-old said that he is aiming for his priesthood at the end of this year.

“This year marks seven years of studies to be a fully ordained pastor and so I will be returning to Fiji to continue my studies and hopefully graduate at the end of the year.

“In all honesty it is not an easy journey but I am only able to overcome all obstacles through God’s guidance.”
