Representing the proud people of Nauru
Meet Miss Lucina Detsiogo.
She is in Samoa representing all the beautiful young ladies of Nauru to the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.
The 19-year-old graduated last year and is currently working as an I.C.T specialist at the I.C.T Department in Nauru.
As one of the youngest contestants for this year’s Pageant, Miss Lucina said this is one of the greatest experiences of her life so far.
“Being here for this pageant is a very big thing for me,” she told the Samoa Observer.
“It’s very special and I am very honored to be here. This is a once in a lifetime experience and I am enjoying it very much. I have been looking forward to meet the girls from all the different islands, and now that I met all of them and spend time with them, it’s such a great experience for me.”
Lucina said it was her friends and families who pushed her to join the pageant at first.
“I joined the pageant in Nauru because my families and friends encouraged me to join. And I joined because I wanted to gain more confidence as well. I didn’t expect to win, I was just enjoying myself and I had a good time. But being here, I still have the same spirit to enjoy and have fun and learn new things.”
As an I.C.T specialist, Lucina said her main focus is on the issue of Cyber bullying.
“It is a big issue in Nauru and also in the Pacific. And if I win the pageant, I would focus on how to eliminate the issue within our communities.
“We need to educate our youths to use technology and internet wisely. We need to educate them about the impacts of cyber bullying and help eliminate the issue.
“Climate Change is another issue. It’s one of the biggest issues within our Pacific and I know we should educate our people and have awareness programmes to help combat climate change.”
If all goes right for Miss Nauru tomorrow night and win the title, Lucina said her main focus will be on empowering the youth of the Pacific.
“I will target the youths of our Pacific,” she said.
“I will encourage them to always put education first, because education is the key to a successful future.”
Her hobbies include singing, playing basketball, spending time with my friends and family.
