Twelve days left to give help to Flea Market Recovery

With 12 days to go before the 30 day countdown is complete, the ‘Samoa Offering Hope’ (S.O.H) Charitable Trust this week received offerings from Samoa Commercial Bank and Federal Pacific Insurance for the Flea Market victims.

At their main office in Matafele on Wednesday, Samoa Commercial Bank President, Lemalu Ray Ah Liki, presented their donation of $5,000 to the Chairperson of Samoa Offering Hope, Adele Kruse.

“Samoa Commercial Bank applauds the initiative by Samoa Offering Hope, and we are glad to be a partner of this good cause and wish all the victims of the Flea Market fire the very best,” said Lemalu.

General Manager of Federal Pacific, Namulauulu Leota Sami, made a similar gesture on Thursday, with a donation of $20,000. In support of the initiative by Samoa Offering Hope, Federal Pacific Insurance decided to present their donation directly to the business operators of the Flea Market at the Flea Market site.

From the more than 200 plus operators, 50 names were picked out of a hat that received $400 each. “We distribute this donation to some of the fire victims of the Flea Market, who are producing four different services of producing handicrafts, elei designed materials, food stalls and shops, with the hope that it would assist them in rebuilding their livelihoods,” said Namulauulu.

Ms. Kruse was present at each occasion and thanked them for their invaluable support.

The initiative for the Flea Market recovery was allotted 30 days and the countdown, which commenced on the 28th of January 2016, will end on the 26th of February.

S.O.H recognizes the importance of the Flea Market as an iconic representation of culture, which benefits many of our people in the rural areas whose livelihoods are dependent on this centre of commerce to sell their genuine Samoan creations to tourists.

S.O.H encourages all to offer hope to our people whose work is critical to the tourism sector and the nation’s receipts.

“Out of a population of approximately 180,000, if 80,000 precious individuals offered $5 or $10, on a national level we can stand together to make a difference to the 200 plus victims of the Flea Market fire,” said Ms. Kruse.

S.O.H acknowledges with thanks the banks, hoteliers, car rentals, and Federal Pacific Insurance for their offerings and reminds all donors that the Lord looks at the heart of the giver and as the widow who gave the smallest amount in the Bible, every offering is valuable and counted as treasure in the Kingdom of God and to the fire victims of the Flea Market.
