Beating the heat in Samoa

The Ford Samoa Warrior Race at Lalomanu on Saturday. The international race attracted an international field representing the USA, American Samoa, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Samoa.

Since its inception in 2013, Samoa's Warrior Race is the only Half Ironman distance in the South Pacific islands.

The race on Saturday was run in very challenging conditions with the persistent wind and heat a factor for local and overseas triathletes.

Samoa's best won the day, with defending champion Darren Young holding on to his crown for another year. Saoluafata triathlete Malaki Iulio won the Men's Beat the Heat race, a shorter race.

Overseas success went to the two Kiwi women, Amanda Poppelwell (Beat the Heat champion) and Alison Heather of Dunedin who won the Women's Warrior crown.

Warrior Race is one of the marquee events for Samoa Events.

Samoa Events now looks ahead to the Samoa Swim Series throughout the next 10 days.
