The Southern Tornadoes of Falealili and Siumu scored an emphatic victory over the Eagles of Tuamasaga yesterday, 43-16, in the latest round of the Super 9 tournament at Apia Park.

The Tornadoes vs. Eagles game was the main match in the final week of the tournament before the playoffs next week.

The Eagles went in with high hopes of securing a bonus point to push for a place next week.

But the Eagles hopes were crushed quite early when the Tornadoes scored three tries in the first half, and another four in the second spell.

Eagles were the first to score points with an early lead, 6-0.

Moe Iafeta took over the kicking job after Eagle’s first five eight Lotu Tololi was unable to continue the game due to an injury inside the opening minutes of the game.

Southern Tornadoes finally struck when a gap opened up by their second five Lei’a Saofaiga bursting through the Eagles defense. Fullback Murphypocetta Paulo was clearly unmarked scoring the first try.

The Tornadoes struck again with fullback Murphypocetta  touching down for his double.

Manaia Iamanu landed the conversions.

Tornadoes’ heavy forward pack dominated the scrums and possession, leading to a try from their blindside flanker and Captain Semiperive Semeane.

The Eagles fought back hard but did not execute their chances well.

When the Tornadoes scored again at the start of the second spell, it was all but over.

Tornadoes Captain Semeane said he was pleased with his team’s efforts.

“Our performance today was part of our preparation for the semifinals next week and I am proud we could display what we have learnt so far in the tournament as a team,” he said.

“We are looking forward to next week and we will give our best to earn a spot for the final.”
