Another cruise ship visits
Apia yesterday played host to another cruise ship—the second vessel laden with tourists to visit Samoa in five days.
The MV Seabourn Sojourn is operated by American-based luxury cruise line company Seabourn Cruise Line.
The vessel docked at the Matautu wharf yesterday morning with some of its 450 passengers disembarking to go out for sightseeing walks around Apia town.
The expedition officer on the vessel, Natasha Hanson, told the Samoa Observer that it was the ship’s first ever stopover in Samoa and they were happy to visit.
“This cruise started in Hawaii, some guests started in Los Angeles, others came from Hawaii, and others came in from Papeete. The guests check in from different ports and the cruise’s final destination is in Auckland, New Zealand.
“If I estimate the time frame from Papeete and ending in New Zealand that would make up 17 days out in the sea. Samoa is a unique country thus the reason behind our visit,” she said.
The passengers were from various countries including the United States, England, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and France.
American couple, David and Anna Truetel, said that it was their first time in Samoa.
“We are from New Orleans and we got the chance to see the Hawaiian Islands, French Polynesia, American Samoa yesterday and now we are here in the beautiful capital of Apia.
“The purpose behind our trip was not only for a holiday but also a wonderful opportunity to go out and see the world.
“We also want to find inspiration on what we should do in the future,” David said.
The cruise ship left Apia at 5.00 pm yesterday for Auckland, New Zealand where the cruise will end.
