Faleata students take on English
There is always a first time for anything.
In the case of Faleata College yesterday, it was their first English Day – an occasion celebrated with pride and plenty of action at the school.
Parents, families and friends of the students gathered to witness the students perform for the first time using the English language.
The Judges for the event were Faatamalii Jenny Lauano, A.C.E.O. of the Teachers Development and Advisory, Lafaitele Aiga Esera and Lafaitele Fualuga Taupi.
Principal Tanuvasa Michael Grey said English Day is all about building up the students’ confidence to use another language that is not Samoan.
“Faleata has never had an English Day before,” he said.
“[But] with the improvement of the learning process of the students in the English language, that created an idea that we would like to have them exhibit what they have learnt in the English language in all different areas.
“For example in the programme, there is Poetry Recitation, solos, impromptu speeches, acapella, impersonation and many more categories.”
The Principal said they would look to host the event on an annual basis.
