FAMILY FUN RUN: The A.N.Z. Community every Wednesday at 6 p.m. runners and walkers choose their distance to suit their own pace.

Every Wednesday at 6pm the gun goes and legs of all ages go flying everywhere at the start of the weekly ANZ Community Fun Run at Robert Louis Stevenson Museum.

Runners and Walkers choose their own distance to suit their own pace. The course is 1.5km long around the Museum estate and the Vailima Botanical Gardens.

It is mostly on grass and is cooled by overhanging trees of the Vailima Botanical Gardens. It also takes in the large lawn in front of the museum to the exit gate where it starts and finishes.

Maximum distance is 6km or 4 laps, and the minimum distance is 3km or 2 laps. And each night, Samoa Events a tally of results goes online giving each walker and runner their race time. Even the 5-year-olds that walk one lap get a race time, and there are a few that come every week.

This is the fourth year of the Samoa Events Run.

After a long association with Magik FM the run this year is picked up by ANZ Bank. ANZ C.E.O. Bernie Poort is very happy to have the bank involved with the family fun nature of the event.

Every Wednesday, a number of ANZ staff join in and at night they see just how well they did from the week before.

“It was fantastic to see so many of my staff take on the challenge last Wednesday to run and walk around a very safe course at the Museum. It fits with the banks focus to give its staff access to exercise to help them get fit and feel good,” said Mr. Poort.

“This is a great way for other companies to get their staff involved in what has proven to be the best weekly family activity going in Apia.”

The weekly family run goes right through Daylight Saving for six months, from the end of September to the end of March.
