According to the Acting Assistant Commissioner, Sala’a Moananu Sala’a, the mother of the victim has lodged a complaint with the Police.

The Police are asking members of the public – especially parents – to take extra care to ensure their children are picked up from school.

The call comes after a 14-year-old girl was picked up by a stranger who took her to a hotel and raped her there.

According to the Acting Assistant Commissioner, Sala’a Moananu Sala’a, the mother of the victim has lodged a complaint with the Police.

“The report states that the victim had just finished school when a vehicle stopped and picked her up,” said Sala’a.

“The suspect then took the victim to one of the hotels within the Faleata District where he allegedly raped her.”

The Police are hunting for the man.

“We have already identified him and we are also familiar with his name. He has had previous convictions.”

Sala’a used the opportunity to remind parents about the need to be alert in protecting young girls.

“I also want to advise the parents to tell their children not to get into anybody’s vehicle if they don’t know them,” said Sala’a.

“Not everyone is the same especially the youths. They may seem nice but they have different motives."

“The message is easy, if you don’t know them don’t talk to them and better yet don’t get into their cars because this is what happens."

“Parents need to be cautious about these kinds of things especially our daughters, they are vulnerable and they will not be able to defend themselves from these criminals."

“So we have to make sure that our daughters are safe.”

In a different matter, the Police are also investigating a case involving a 15-year-old girl from Faleata District whose family had been looking for her for two days.
